Background

heapcbackgroundThe Health Education and Promotion Council (HEAPC) is a not-for-profit organization that is committed to improving the health and wellbeing of communities that it serves. HEAPC is committed to providing leadership to the community and professionals working within multiple sectors on best and promising practices that improve educational and health outcomes. As such, HEAPC serves as a regional technical assistant mobilizing a cadre of staff and consultants with expertise in select areas of public health, education, and social welfare policy.

HEAPC is structured in four centers that provide essential public health services to the communities it serves:
In addition to serving as a regional technical assistant, HEAPC is committed to planning, implementing, and evaluating initiatives that directly impact short-term, intermediate, and long-term health and educational outcomes. HEAPC’s public health initiatives aim to increase knowledge of specific disease conditions, associated risk factors, and appropriate methods of disease prevention and management. HEAPC’s initiatives that work to improve educational outcomes aim to increase student exposure and appreciation of the STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and math), improve cultural competency of educational institutions and academic curricula, decrease the achievement gap and dropout rates among at-risk student populations. HEAPC is committed to connecting both the professional and the public with the latest scientific research and best practice models.

Favian Kennedy, Executive Director, and his staff will continue to develop innovative approaches that yield measurable impacts and effectively link research to policy and practice. For more information on HEAPC's services view the four Center pages at the links above, or browse our About Us section to learn more about our priorities, approach or theory of change.
